Terminating Union

The event Union is assumed to be terminated upon the death of one of the parties. Union may or may not be terminated by another Union event with the same two parties. For example, a Union event of type marriage may replace a Union event of type informal. Repeating the Union event when there is no additional civil or religious significance, but events such as renewal of vows can be entered as general events.

Union Dissolved is the event that ends a Union. The Type stub provides the detail of the reason or means. Death of the other party can be a type in a Union Dissolved event if there is a particular likelihood of confusion (but otherwise the Union Dissolved event can be omitted. Divorce, Annulment and Separation' can be types of the Union Dissolved event (although the theory of annulment is that the Union never occurred).

Since religious and civil dissolution may involve differ processes by differing authorities at different times, it would be possible to enter more than one Union Dissolved event for a single Union. But it is really more accurate to enter two types of the same event such as:

*(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Event: Union Dissolved
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Type: Divorce
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Date: (:adate :)
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Place:
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Agency:
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Presiding:
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Type: Religious Annulment
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Date: (:adate :)
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Place:
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Agency:
***(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Presiding:

There is a special point being illustrated here. Details at the same level are not necessarily in any particular order, but they belong to stub above at the next higher level.

The Date, Place, Agency, and Presiding stubs above are at the third level down because they apply to Type stubs above them that are at the second level down. This makes clear which Date applies to which Type.

But in a simpler event they can all be at the second level with the Type stub.

*(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Event: Union Dissolved
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Type: Divorce
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Date: (:adate :)
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Place:
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Agency:
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Presiding:
**(FamiliesWiki/Stub)Principal:
