John H. 'Jack' Eighner, 79, of Hoopeston, formerly of rural East Lynn, died at 1:12 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Born May 1, 1926, at Rankin, he was the son of Clarence J. and Marie M. (Grafelman) Eighner. He married Jean Hatfield on Nov. 30, 1947, at East Lynn. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Shirley (Charles) Cramer of St. Joseph; one son, Stan (Marge) Eighner of Tinley Park; three grandchildren, Heather (Phil) Obiala, Lindsay Eighner and Steven Eighner, all of Tinley Park; and one brother, Richard (Dick) Eighner of Rankin. His parents, two brothers and one son, Steven, preceded him in death.
Mr. Eighner had farmed in the East Lynn and Rankin areas all of his life, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church.
He was a life member of Star Lodge No. 709 in Hoopeston and was Past Master of the Rankin Masonic Lodge for three years, before their consolidation with the Hoopeston Lodge. He was also a life member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Danville and had served on the Vermilion County Production Credit Board for 15 years, serving seven as presi-dent.
Funeral services for Mr. Eighner will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St. in Hoopeston. The Rev. Janet Eggleston will officiate, assisted by Rev. Jerry Haley. Burial will be in the East Lynn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006, at the Brown-Alkire Funeral Home, 309 E. Washington St, in Hoopeston. Masonic Rites will be accorded by Star Lodge No. 709 at 8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hoopeston United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
